We're six years old today!
Six years ago today, we launched a radio station that we hoped you’d like. Actually, “like” was never our goal. Planet 93.9 was built to be something you’d be PROUD to listen to.
At a time when every FM radio station across the dial in every town in America sounded exactly the same, we aimed to give you something different. Something unique. The river flows differently here. We make our pizzas differently. Why couldn’t we offer you a radio station that was a REAL alternative?
We looked at a lot of the rules we’d been taught working in the world of soulless corporate radio and realized a lot of them wouldn’t work if we genuinely wanted to be different. So we started with a playlist that offered something like 20x the titles you’d find anywhere else. We put an emphasis on discovering new bands. We refused to follow tired rules (like never play two female artists back-to-back, for real, that’s a thing that still goes on) when we scheduled our music.
From that first day back in 2020, a year that let’s face it, didn’t offer a ton of bright spots, your enthusiastic response to Planet 93.9 was beyond our most optimistic expectations.
I know I’ve told you this before, but some of my favorite feedback I’ve heard over the last six years is when people share that Planet 93.9 isn’t just their favorite station, but it’s the reason they started listening to FM radio again. And if along the way, you’ve discovered some new (or old) bands that you might not have ever heard of if it weren't for our Quad City Style Alternative station, then we’ve both accomplished something cool.
If you’ve been listening for six years or you just discovered us yesterday, THANK YOU for giving Planet 93.9 a chance. I hope you are as proud of Planet 93.9 as I am. We wanted to build something exceptional for the Quad Cities because, face it, this is an amazing community filled with cool people who deserve cool things.
We built Planet 93.9 for you. The fact that you love it as much as we do means everything. Thanks for listening!
Cheers,
Dave
